Lettering & Letterpress
This is a poster that repurposes a line from an old hymn, Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing. To capture the wanderlust of the phrase, I started with a base layer of fluorescent ink. The off-set layer of darker orange adds texture and energy, and a forest green grounds the final layer of type. This letterpress print brings new life to the old hymn.
Carving the linoleum block was cathartic for me, because it taught me to live with the imperfections that were caused by my hand. In the end, my favorite part of the print was the tactile feel and texture this lack of precision created. I really enjoyed the movement and energy that resulted from offsetting the layers of this reductive print.
